What is Title I?
Title I is the United States Federal Government’s largest education assistance program for schools. Its purpose is to help every child receive a high-quality education and achieve the high standards set by the state of North Carolina. Schools in Buncombe County are eligible for Title I services based on Identified Student Percentage (ISP) which provides data for households receiving direct services. Each of these schools must submit a comprehensive needs assessment, plan and budget prioritizing the spending of funds, along with a Family Engagement Plan and Policy. These documents are created in collaboration with all stakeholders (principal, teachers, families, students). Each school is required to create a Home/School Compact in collaboration with stakeholders stating the responsibilities of all involved members and each member has to sign the compact and review these documents annually.
